Finding Rest in Exploration

One of my favorite ways to rest in the Lord is to get out and explore His creation.  I know that at first thought this seems like the opposite of rest.  Sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee and an open Bible may seem like a better fit for "resting in the Lord" please don't get me wrong it is in fact a form of rest that God has for us and I believe accepting that rest and making it a priority in my life but, as christians, do we often times put God in a box and say that He is only one form of rest, that we can only experience Him in one specific way?

Genesis 1:31 says that "God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good." this is the first time that we really see and understand that God truly has ownership over ALL things good.  Since God has ownership over all things He is able to make himself known through all things and through all things praise can be given.  And does God not delight in us when we are seeking rest in Him, however that may look?  Because of this I find peace.  When I go out and intentionally explore His creation it gives me the chance to get away from all the noise and really rest in what is good.

I love making new discoveries of the vastness of His greatness and the detailed works of His hands. It quiets my soul and I dwell on how big my God is and how He thought of me when created the earth and how He had the grace to share it with me. Even after having to catch my breath after a long hike I truly feel refreshed and well rested after experiencing the presence of God through the good and beautiful things He created.  I really encourage you to get out and get exploring it's such a wonderful and beautiful way to experience His peace!
